Monday 27th March

Level39: No Spectators: The Cliff Edge of Financial Services

Date: Monday 27th March

Host: Level39

Time:  6.00pm – 9.00pm

Level39 and Innovate Finance brings together the main players of the FS sector – investor, banker, entrepreneur – to pin down the looming threat on the industry’s horizon and detail a framework for success.
This lively panel discussion between a fast-growing fintech entrepreneur, financial services veteran and industry mentor will touch on:
  • The exact nature of the threat faced by financial services – is it FinTech, regulation, culture, or something altogether different?
  • Real collaboration – more than just investment and acquisition – how can big and small work with each other more effectively?
  • How do we, as participators, stimulate significant change and impact.
We hope that after this 45-minute interactive panel discussion, and the hour of networking afterwards, you will leave with an increased understanding of creating real change in financial services, FinTech and beyond. From spectator, to activator.

Efforts are underway across the world to refresh legacy regulatory and policy structures to accommodate financial innovation and address the demands of an increasingly digital economy. Both regulators and policymakers are tasked with the difficult balancing act of fostering a conducive environment for financial technology (FinTech) development, while ensuring the end user, be it an investor or borrower, remains protected.

What does it take for governments to realise the potential of FinTech and begin to craft appropriate policy and regulatory frameworks supportive of its growth? To what extent have these efforts met with success and failure? And how has the conversation shifted in policy and regulatory circles from viewing FinTech from a risk-averse perspective, to viewing it as a tool to address certain government mandates or interests?
