Summary

On Monday 19th – Tuesday 20th March Innovate Finance kicked off UK FinTech Week 2018 and gathered leaders and innovators across FinTech, financial services and technology for two days of discussion and debate at the historic Guildhall.

Over 2000 delegates and 300 FinTech companies from across the world convened in London for IFGS 2018. With stage sessions, roundtables, workshops and fringe events taking place across the two days and the Square Mile, the Summit was a festival of FinTech and showcased world-class speakers tackling the issues set to define the sector.

John Glen MP, Economic Secretary to the HM Treasury, took to the IFGS 2018 stage and discussed the Government’s commitment to supporting FinTech growth, the launch of a cryptocurrency study and ensuring FinTech can mature into ‘adulthood.’

Panel Discussion: AI & Machine Learning – Will the Robots Rise?

Is 2018 finally the year AI technology turns from a concept to a reality at an enterprise level? In what form will these artificial intelligence products and solutions take and what challenges might we face from the rise of robotics? The second day of IFGS 2018 was kicked off with The Rt Hon Nick Clegg in the Livery Hall. He discussed the original dream of the internet and the importance of avoiding the consequences of a looming techphobia. Highlighting how we need technological innovation to help solve big global problems, from stopping climate change to mending our democracy.

Wednesday 21st March

Our CEO Charlotte Crosswell attended the market opening at the London Stock Exchange with Robert Jenrick MP and Nikhil Rathi, CEO of LSE Plc. She also delivered the keynote for their International FinTech Forum, with a focus on international opportunities and expansion.

Wednesday 21st March

Our Head of Policy and Regulation, Sameer Gulati and Policy Advisor, Peter Cunanne attended the FCA Global Sandbox workshop.

Thursday 22nd March

The Innovate Finance team attended HM Treasury’s International FinTech Conference. With our COO Janine Hirt attending a private lunch with Hon Alexander Downer AC, High Commissioner and Australian Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, to mark the FinTech bridge announcement.

Thursday 22nd March

Our CEO also spoke at the Citi Digital Symposium on the panel: The Only Way is Ethics, focussing on financial inclusion.
